Gifts & Gluttony!

Hey Buddies!

This is why I love writing a blog. You never have to worry about what you should or should not write/post. It is quite unlike other social media platforms where some people might find your well intended, happy posts, annoying or over the top. But on a blog you can indulge in every kind of excess from speaking up your mind against corruption, racism or sexism to blatantly showing off your new piece of jewelry. And I love doing both!

So starting with the former, I was reading about a certain USA political candidate's "bimbo" comment towards a female newsperson. It was a hot topic on Twitter and so quite a few of you may be aware as to who were the concerned parties. Now, I am from a different country and so my political opinions do not matter and anyhow, my outrage against the comment has nothing to do with its political backgrounds. I have seen a lot of politicians and celebrities of vastly dissimilar countries (including mine), blabber the same kind of inane sexist rhetoric and hence, the problem isn't even country specific.

I fail to understand as to how on one hand a conventionally beautiful girl is always considered a "bimbo" and on the other hand a girl who isn't socially approved as being pretty is considered an "eye sore" and how therefore in both cases the girls are deemed unfit to do anything worthwhile. Why can't a person who loves nail art in his/her personal time (and yes, a person...'cause who says people from other genders can't love their nails) also fight a battle at the border, and why can't a person in sweatpants not head a financial organization? Why should looks and gender even matter when it comes to work? I guess these discussions and philosophical musings will go on for a long time. Till then we can only try to push our way through such age-old notions, in whatever way we can.

Coming to the second part of the blog - the shameless display of gifts and gluttony!

We celebrated our 3rd Wedding Anniversary last weekend. It was a lovely day because it meant that I and Ashu completed another year together without killing each other (we have been together for roughly ten years now, so that is a pretty big achievement). It turned out to be even more special because I got my first piece of Tiffany's jewelry, i.e. an Atlas pendant in white gold and diamonds (a similar one is available in silver but without the diamonds so if you want to indulge without burning a hole in your wallet, go for it). The icing on the cake was the dinner at Natural Selection - a fabulous vegan/vegetarian place in Portland.

I am sharing some of our memories here. Please excuse the quality, these were unplanned pictures.

Shades of Grey!

Is it "grey" or "gray"? Huh. I'll flip a coin and go with one...
And "grey" it is!
Now where was I?
Right! Now, my whole wardrobe is a mish-mash of grey, black and white. So what?
Yes, I go to a store and can not see anything apart from that grey dress or that grey sweater or that grey skirt. So what?
Yes, in the last three months, literally everything that I have bought is grey. So what?
And yes, these days if I wear anything apart from grey, I feel weird and weirder and sad and soulless. So what?

I am not obsessed or anything.

It's just a phase. It'll pass..right? Right??

Darn! Let's face it, I am obsessed. After all, there is nothing more versatile than grey. It goes with everything, every time. I can dress it up, dress it down, glam it up, lounge in it - the options are endless. Even the inexpensive pieces look expensive and stylish in grey. And these are just a bunch of excuses, the real reason is that I feel grey looks really good on me (grin).
So here is my latest grey outfit! Oh, by the way, tomorrow is mine and Ashu's 3rd Wedding Anniversary. So please do keep us in your prayers and happy thoughts. :-)
Also, watch out for a special Anniversary post that would be coming up very soon!

Sequin Sparkle!

Hola Amigas!

Still settling into the new year? At least I am.

It is strange that although calendars are only an artificial human arrangement and a "New Year", technically, brings nothing new, it all still makes us feel like it is a fresh, new chapter in our lives. However, this chapter has been a bit lame till now, as far as the book of my life is concerned. I started "The Long Valley" by John Steinbeck last week but have barely read fifty pages. My painting supplies have been resting in the drawers forever and my work at the library is on a pause due to the holiday season. I did get back in to my exercise routine day before yesterday, so that is a huge post-holiday achievement!

So, I was going through a couple of old Vogue issues today and was relieved to see at least some models other than size zeroes. I also drooled over a lot of unaffordable outfits. I know..I know..I will nearly never end up buying any of it but...Oh! How pretty!

Anyhow, I feel extremely blessed that I can afford a lot of other stuff right now and I am more than happy to flaunt what I have got. So, here is my new jacket, my new sparkly top and my matching booties. Hope you like today's outfit.

Winter Rain!

Happy New Year Everyone!!

My greetings have been delayed due to the extraordinarily dull weather here in Oregon and due to the fact that I have been watching too much television and eating too much junk. The start to the New Year has been so utterly useless and lazy that all my resolutions for this year are already as good as down the gutter. Honestly! My television is still on and I have eaten four snack bars of chocolates since morning and I haven't made the bed in two days.

On a more positive note, I completed my Goodreads reading challenge in 2015 and have started another one for this year. I am going to continue volunteering and I plan to resume some creative writing from this weekend onwards. So there is still some ray of hope. Although, I still don't know if I can get myself to make the bed...

It has been pouring down since forever and it is so difficult to dress up nice when things are so muddy. Still, for the love of fashion, we would keep trying. Hope you like the outfit!
