Gifts & Gluttony!

Hey Buddies!

This is why I love writing a blog. You never have to worry about what you should or should not write/post. It is quite unlike other social media platforms where some people might find your well intended, happy posts, annoying or over the top. But on a blog you can indulge in every kind of excess from speaking up your mind against corruption, racism or sexism to blatantly showing off your new piece of jewelry. And I love doing both!

So starting with the former, I was reading about a certain USA political candidate's "bimbo" comment towards a female newsperson. It was a hot topic on Twitter and so quite a few of you may be aware as to who were the concerned parties. Now, I am from a different country and so my political opinions do not matter and anyhow, my outrage against the comment has nothing to do with its political backgrounds. I have seen a lot of politicians and celebrities of vastly dissimilar countries (including mine), blabber the same kind of inane sexist rhetoric and hence, the problem isn't even country specific.

I fail to understand as to how on one hand a conventionally beautiful girl is always considered a "bimbo" and on the other hand a girl who isn't socially approved as being pretty is considered an "eye sore" and how therefore in both cases the girls are deemed unfit to do anything worthwhile. Why can't a person who loves nail art in his/her personal time (and yes, a person...'cause who says people from other genders can't love their nails) also fight a battle at the border, and why can't a person in sweatpants not head a financial organization? Why should looks and gender even matter when it comes to work? I guess these discussions and philosophical musings will go on for a long time. Till then we can only try to push our way through such age-old notions, in whatever way we can.

Coming to the second part of the blog - the shameless display of gifts and gluttony!

We celebrated our 3rd Wedding Anniversary last weekend. It was a lovely day because it meant that I and Ashu completed another year together without killing each other (we have been together for roughly ten years now, so that is a pretty big achievement). It turned out to be even more special because I got my first piece of Tiffany's jewelry, i.e. an Atlas pendant in white gold and diamonds (a similar one is available in silver but without the diamonds so if you want to indulge without burning a hole in your wallet, go for it). The icing on the cake was the dinner at Natural Selection - a fabulous vegan/vegetarian place in Portland.

I am sharing some of our memories here. Please excuse the quality, these were unplanned pictures.
