Pairing Horizontal & Vertical Stripes

Hello again!
So, it is official now. The short spring has turned into a scorchy summer and yet, stripes continue to be the hottest trend. In fact, they are so popular, it is safe to say, we can very well expect to see some gorgeous striped overcoats this winter too.
A couple of weeks ago, I had shared with you all, my take on a pair of striped pants (here). For that outfit, I had paired my stripes with solid colored pieces. However, this time, I decided to dive deeper and put together an outfit, all striped.
I have paired here, a horizontally striped off-shoulder top with a vertically striped trumpet skirt. Since the outfit was all blue and black, I threw on a bright orange bag to add some summer zest and finally, for a little bling, I added a pair of glittering flower studs.

Hope you like the outfit!

A Beach Vacation!

What does one crave for the most during summers, beside ice cream? A vacation.

And what better place to have a vacation than near a bright blue beach!

We were pretty lucky this time to be able to squeeze in a trip to Maui in our budget. Needless to say, the trip was amazing. The weather was really pleasant which allowed us to explore the area comfortably. We stayed at the Marriott Maui Ocean Club at Kaanapali beach. The beach and the property both were gorgeous and close to a lot of attractions. The Whaler's Village was just at a five minutes walk and the Banyan Tree Park was a short drive from there. We gave the famous helicopter ride a miss but did go canoeing and snorkeling with Hawaiian Paddle Sports. However, as on most holidays, we actually spent most of our time on the beach and in the pool.

It was a six-day trip and as compared to my previous trips, I packed really light this time. This was quite easy owing to the fact that it was the beach (wink)(wink).  Apart from swimwear, I packed two shorts, four super-light tops and a maxi-dress all of which served as both day-outfits and cover-ups. For the nights, I just packed three formal outfits but ended up using only one. I went easy on the shoes too as I chucked away all the heels and packed just a pair each of the flip-flops and the beach sandals. I wore my sneakers on the flight which saved me a lot of baggage space. I managed to tuck in my beach bag in the carry on baggage while I carried my regular big purse.

And now for some beach travel tips (lessons I learnt, the hard way, over the years) :
  1. Go easy on the dressier outfits and focus on light beach wear. You will keep going into the water multiple times a day and will need cover-ups far more than your LBDs.
  2. Pack two pairs of sunglasses. The cheaper ones for the water activities and the expensive ones for the fancier times.
  3. We all of course remember the sunscreen lotions/sprays but we usually forget the sunscreen lip balm. I made the same mistake and as a result my lips are tanned beyond recognition now.
  4. Carry some light, fun beach jewelry to pair with your swimwear. Make sure it is inexpensive so that it doesn't hurt too bad even if you lose it under water.
Last but not the least, have fun!

Types of Skirts!

Hi Friends,

Skirts are my absolute favorite items in the wardrobe. They are fun, flirty, classy and versatile. However, it is at times confusing when people talk about various skirt styles. There are just so many! So let us make this easy by learning some quick skirt vocabulary.

Skirt Glossary!
There are so many ways to wear these styles. To give you a little idea, A-line, straight and pencil skirts go really well with formal or classy shirts and tops. Try the bodycon or asymmetrical skirt on when you want to look a little sexy. The pleated, wrap, tiered and tulip styles are awesome for a girly brunch. Wear a handkerchief, gypsy or sarong style at the beach with a bikini or hobo crop top to get that cool, casual vibe. A trumpet, a maxi or a godet skirt is great for fancy dinners or cocktail parties. The best part is, these are not 'rules'. It is always fun to innovate and create new looks so try to mix & match the formal skirts with informal and fun pieces.

Now, go exploring and fill up your wardrobe!

Boho Pants and Bangs!

Hi Chicas

I just got a new haircut two days back and I am trying to work my entire existing wardrobe around it!

I have always had pretty safe and simple haircuts and I am very hesitant when it comes to chopping my hair off, even by inches. However, this time, I finally gathered the needed courage and went prepared to try on something new. And aaaaaaaah...I got myself some bangs!

I always liked bangs on a lot of my girlfriends and of course on celebrities but didn't have a clue how they would frame my incredibly rotund face. So, even though I went prepared for it, it was a bit of a shocker to look into the mirror and see a huge chunk of hair just fall right over my forehead. It took me two days to get really used to these baby bangs but I am loving them now.

My first outfit with the new hairdo, is with these wide-legged boho smock pants. I love these pants. They are comfy and casual and yet, look amazingly stylish. However, choosing the right top and accessories for such pants is certainly a challenge. I feel, if the whole bohemian look isn't put right, it looks way too messy and just falls apart. So, I have kept it pretty simple with all black pieces and some antique-y silver jewelery.

Hope you like it!
