Tame the Mane!

Hi Girls!

I have been meaning to write this post for a long time, but for some reason it kept getting delayed. Now here I finally am!

To begin with, I must tell you, I do not have naturally good hair. Growing up, my hair was a major challenge. It used to be rough, frizzy and awfully thin. During monsoon, it used to get oily and messy and looked dirty even after a heavy wash. For many years, I paid no attention to my hair whatsoever and kept it really really short. However, after high school, I started spending some time and energy on it.

I started with a coconut oil massage twice a week, followed by thorough hair washes. Later I added homemade yogurt and lemon hair packs once a month to the routine for deep conditioning and to prevent the scalp from drying. This really helped me keep the roots healthy and get rid of split-ends.
Of late, I often replace the homemade packs for other hair masks and hair butters due to sheer laziness, but honestly, they work too. I also kind of replace coconut oil with Argan oil at times as Argan oil is much lighter and non-sticky.
I feel regular conditioners do not work that well on my hair, so instead, I use hair masks regularly (like, twice a week). Since my hair is quite frizzy, I make sure that I apply some serum or anti-frizz spray before I comb.
To cut the long story short, after many years of exploring and experimenting with different hair products during different seasons, here are my top picks.

For dry flaky hair or during winters - The Body Shop Ginger Scalp Care Shampoo/The Body Shop Rainforest Moisture Hair Butter

For oily hair or on limpy hair days - Lush Big Salt Shampoo/Lóreal Professional Absolut Repair

For normal hair or for everyday use - Kérastase Elixir Ultime Shampoo and Mask

After-wash hair treatments - The Body Shop Grapeseed Serum, Soy Renewal Argan Oil, Bed Head Ego Boost Frizz Control Serum

My Picks!

Home-made hair pack - Yougurt, Lemon and Coconut/Olive Oil Pack
Healthy Hair!

  1. I always think your hair looks so beautiful - I would never guess you used to have so much trouble with it! Will definitely make a note of some of your recommendations. My hair gets bleached regularly so I have to make sure I get the moisture back into it! x

    1. Hey Richa! Thanks for your question. I have been using the Kerastase Elixir Ultime shampoo for over a year now. I have found it to be quite nice, mild and gentle for everyday use. It works very well for me and leaves my hair hydrated and soft. I feel it is the perfect shampoo for any hair type - dry, oily or normal. If you are still unsure, I would suggest you start with the smallest bottle. I would also highly recommend the Kerastase conditioner or hair mask.

I hope this was helpful. Do let me know if you have any other specific concerns regarding it and I hope you enjoy your new shampoo. :-)

    2. Thanks for your feedback. I think I'll give it a shot. I have horribly unruly hair so I am always on a hunt for the perfect concoction. Btw your hair looks so perfect it's surprising you put in So much effort.
