A Fair Day!

Hi Friends

I attended the Portland Rose Fair this weekend. It was a colorful and fun festival full of music, fragrant roses, and aromatic delicacies. Apart from the usual elephant ears, churros and such, there were some old fashioned swirl cakes, fried apple pies with cream and deep fried crunchy rose petals with salted caramel syrup. I and my husband were initially a bit hesitant to try the last one but it turned out to be really delicious!

There were a lot of thrill rides, some of which were unimaginably dizzying to even look at! I played a few hands at some silly yet fun games and managed to gather a few teeny-tiny prizes.

It was a somewhat hot afternoon and we had to spend quite a few hours walking in the sun. So I chose to wear a really loose fit, cotton baggy dress with a pair of strappy flat sandals. I also threw on a long, wide red scarf to add some color and for some light insulation in case the weather got chilly around evening. Posting some pictures below.

(I also had on, a pair of dangling pearl earrings which aren't visible, so, will post pictures with them some other time. )

Tribal Trysts

Tribal trends from all across the globe are finding place in our wardrobes. Turban hats, huge beaded necklaces and feather hair clips are just some of the many high-fashion items that are making waves. Tribal prints similarly, have inspired many designers the last few seasons and continue to do so. The eclectic mix of patterns and use of an unlimited, never-exhausting palette of colors is what makes tribal prints so popular and easy to wear.
These prints can be both in bright and soft, nature inspired colors. You can wear them either with other printed separates or solid colors. Since these prints are so diverse, they can be worn almost everywhere ranging from office meetings to night clubs. Depending on the occasion accessorize with complementing ethnic tribal pieces or simple, sophisticated pieces to strike an impressive contrast!

Pointers:
  1. Avoid horizontal/broad patterns on wider body areas.
  2. If on edge with this trend go for soft monochromatic patterns.
  3. While wearing ethnic patterns to a formal event, pair with neutral, structured accessories.
  4. For a decluttered look, replace multiple tiny patterns with simple, clean prints.

In the pics below, I am wearing a pair of tribal inspired printed trousers with a solid color racer back top in a complementing shade. The geometric pendant is the only piece of jewellery I am wearing with this outfit. The colorful sling bag and neutral wedges complete the look.

Faux-Wrap Dress

Hi Friends!

My weekend started on a slightly bad note with an accident at the salon. I hate going to the salon so I only visit my nearest one, once a month for getting my eyebrows done. I have been going to the same salon for the last ten months and everything went smoothly every single time. However, this time the lady must have had something else on her mind because she waxed off at least 1/5th of one of my eyebrows!! Now they are so bad that they do not match each other at all even after her manager tried her best to fix it later. It was quite frightening for me to see my reflection in the mirror for the initial 5-10 minutes...now I am just hoping my eyebrows grow back soon to their original shape.

A piece of advice - Be very careful about choosing salons, especially if you are letting someone touch your face.

The same day I had to go for a wedding reception. It was of one of my husband's colleagues. It was kind of an informal get-together, yet, I saw the window of opportunity to dress up a bit and so I did! I wore a blue faux-wrap dress with matching shoes, a statement necklace and my favourite clutch. Well...that clutch goes wonderfully with so many outfits that its hard for me not to love it.

The dress had come originally with a thin black leather belt which was not very flattering. This dress already cinches the area above the waist perfectly so I removed the belt. I also unstitched the hoops on the sides of the dress meant for holding the belt.

Feeling Blue!

I just love wearing monochromes! It is really fun to use different shades and tones of the same hue to create an entire outfit. A well coordinated monochromatic outfit spells class and elegance making the simplest pieces look gorgeous. It is a great way to take a break from the fashionably safe and prevalent albeit slightly common color-blocking. Just be sure to go for colors that are light on the eyes since you have to wrap yourself up in the same hue head to toe! The safest colors to play with are blues, grays, pinks and greens.

I found this beautiful leatherette jacket from Guess at a very good price on sale. I love the button detail around the neck and the look that resembles denim! It is very versatile and I will be posting pictures of it with other outfits quite soon.

(By the way, denim jackets are totally in vogue this spring and fit almost any outfit perfectly. So, if you have any shopping budget this month, a denim jacket should certainly be on your list!)
